I promised a proper update but I don't think I can manage a full one because I'm not feeling so great. I apologise in advance for the disjointed nature of this post but if I don't just get on and do it, it's never going to get done.

I had my lower left wisdom tooth removed more than a week ago and it totally knocked me on my ass. It was a very difficult and painful extraction and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be healing well. It's definitely noticeably better than it was earlier in the week but I'm still in constant throbbing pain. Plus, one of the dissolvable stitches has come loose and is flapping around my mouth, which is about to make me lose my mind. I'm planning to go and get it checked at the Dental Hospital tomorrow because it just doesn't feel quite right.

What else is happening? Well, I'm going to Australia in less than 2 weeks because my brother is getting married out there (he lives in Manley, just across the bay from Sydney with his Australian girlfriend). I've never been before so I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be there for about 3 weeks and will mostly be in the Sydney, Kiama and Blue Mountain areas if anyone is around that area and wants to meet up for tea and cake.

In less agreeable news, the Kidlet has been off school since before Christmas with a mystery problem that turned out to be a weird variant of migraine, he's on medication now and seems a lot better but it's been a worrying month or so. We're hoping to get him back to school after half term.

After a break of about a month to recover from The Diary Project (which I finally finished updating this week), I've started drawing again. I'm currently working on a series of drawings similar in style to the Diary Project ones but on better paper. The idea is that I'll try selling them because hey, I need to fund my extravagant Australia-visiting lifestyle. I'm also about to start a new series of 'un-drawings' done with graphite powder but there's nothing concrete to say about those yet because so far all I've done is buy the powdered graphite. It's going to involve lots of rubbing and wearing a dust mask.

Other than that, I've mostly been knitting - it's been helping me stay sane while I stress about the Kidlet. I'm sure there's been tons of other stuff happening but right now my brain is full of cotton wool and I can't think straight.

So there you go - kid ill, mouth hurty, brain stoopid, going hot place with nice beaches and dangerous wildlife. I go bed now...

Hey ho, life is very busy at the moment - not with Christmas though, I'm woefully under-prepared for that and somewhat uninterested in the whole process. Must get my act together over the next few days and finish shopping for presents. Fortunately our Christmases are always very low key and relaxed but I do still need to make a slight effort!

Instead, my 40th birthday has been keeping me occupied. My loves threw a fabulous party for me on Saturday: we had about 30 people there and I was very touched that so many people, some of whom had travelled quite a distance, came to celebrate with me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have decided that I should have birthday parties more often (although probably not every year).

We very much enjoyed our annual visit from the lovely, shaix, who left early yesterday morning. Before she headed back to the States, she fessed up that she had sent the lovely bunch of anonymous flowers that arrived for me on Saturday with a note that read "for a lovely lady on her birthday". She had decided to get me 'a mystery' for my birthday and she definitely succeeded because I spent the whole weekend trying - and failing - to work out who could have sent them to me. She kept the secret for days without letting anything slip - we have all resolved never to play poker with her!

Our final guest, astvinr, is heading back to London today and then it will finally feel as though my birthday is really over. Perhaps then Christmas will seem more pressing.

However, this week I'm getting my study professionally painted so that is taking up room in my head instead. The painters started this morning and I'm very excited at the thought of having that space repainted and finally getting a carpet in there. Of course it meant that yesterday we had to move everything out of there, which wasn't ideal as we were all still recovering from the weekend. It wasn't too bad though, I'd already cleared some of it last week and with 4 of us working on it, it didn't take long to get the space emptied.

So I've currently got my desk set up behind the couch in the living room and there are piles of stuff everywhere. Fortunately I can use the X-Box cable to connect to the net, so I'm able to get some work done although really I need to wire up the scanner so that I can get on with updating the Diary Project blog. I am also still firmly in decluttering mode and I'm using the disruption as an opportunity to get rid of yet more stuff and re-organise the things that are staying. I've got someone coming this morning to pick up about 50 art magazines and I've got another huge pile of books and magazines that I'm going to be donating to my college library. It feels so incredibly good to be letting go of this stuff and I'm happy it's going off to be useful elsewhere instead of just sitting on my shelves in boxes.

I had planned to go and look at carpets this afternoon but I'm feeling a little wiped and nauseous this morning, so I'm going to do it tomorrow instead. At this point it's unlikely that we'll be able to get a carpet fitted before Christmas anyway and I need to listen to these signals from my body unless I want to propel myself into a full blown crash.

I've just finished putting this week's envelopes onto The Diary Project. I'm still working on the website, [info]gyrus23 and I are aiming, fingers crossed, to launch it at the end of the coming week. I'm desperate to finish now because I've got so many other things on hold until it's done - doesn't seem to stop me procrastinating on it though. When it's up I'm going to have a dedicated art blog on the site. I'll still be talking about art here as well and I won't be abandoning fragiletender but I need somewhere that's a bit less personal where I can wear a more professional face.

What else happened this week? Well, I went to see my old boss on Wednesday. I was a bit nervous about it as I hadn't seen her since I left work nearly two years ago but after the first 30 seconds it was great. We always did get on well and we just clicked back into that easy friendly relationship. It was wonderful to catch up with her and also to get over that 'I feel awkward because I used to work for you and now I don't' thing. Of course, I was shattered when I got home and had to go to bed for a couple of hours but it was totally worth it.

Oh, and I visited Clifton Cathedral on Monday. We've lived here for nearly 10 years and I'd never been inside before. I was walking back from the doctor's very slowly and taking lots of photos when I decided on a whim that I should go inside and explore.

I liked the glorious stained glass best, unfortunately I still think the rest of the building is quite ugly (apart from the drainage system, which rocks).

There are some other photos from that day in the 'Out and About' set on my flickr, as well as some sunnier pictures from Bradford-on-Avon that I've been meaning to blog for weeks.

It did make me decide that I should get into the habit of visiting some of the many interesting local attractions that I shamefully haven't visited yet. I think the Observatory on the Downs might be next on the list or maybe The Red Lodge.

Other highlights of the week:

Discovering gluten free muffins in Tesco's which meant that I could have a fried egg muffin for breakfast this morning. OMG, it was So Frelling Good!

Lying around in bed with [info]catvincent both of us having hysterical giggling fits because he was being very silly

Playing with my new toy - the Vivitar slide printer that I got on ebay a couple of weeks ago - and discovering that although I need more practice, making Polaroid transfers with it is a lot of fun.

Doctor Who

Having intelligent conversations about current events with The Kidlet who is turning into A Fine Young Man.

Having equally fun conversations on flickr and starting to feel that I belong to some of the communities there.

Watching The Prestige with Cat and being completely blown away.

Having the house to myself on Monday and Tuesday because Cat was away in Cornwall on a job - it was nice to have him back but it was also nice to have some 'me time'.

Having cups of tea with my lovely friend Z, who came round on Monday afternoon to do more gardening.

Low points:

As usual, my bloody health - but other than that, it's been a pretty nice week.

OK, better get on with some work or got to bed. I napped this afternoon so I'm not that tired yet but I since I'm going out shopping tomorrow, I probably ought to attempt some sleep.

So, an update as promised.

Monday started with minor surgery on my scalp - owie. I had two benign but annoying cysts removed so I now have stitches in my head. Unfortunately the doctor used a local anaesthetic that contained adrenaline (it reduces the bleeding apparently) and I started shaking uncontrollably whilst lying on the couch. Thankfully it wore off but it left me feeling a bit wobbly. I'm notorious for being a cheap date - I'm incredibly sensitive to drugs of any kind.

Tuesday - still wobbly after surgery. I had planned to go out to see [info]crunchcandy's show but there was no way I could manage it, which made me cross and sad (sorry honey, I really did want to come). So I stayed home, watched Hot Fuzz with [info]catvincent and finished a pair of socks instead.

Wednesday - got a phone call from the Kidlet's school saying that he'd been hit in the eye with a stick. Instant panic. I still wasn't feeling well so Cat went off to collect him and take him to the eye hospital. It turned out that he'd actually been punched in a fight by a kid who, for reasons unknown, had been bugging him for about a month - annoying but a hell of a lot less worrying than a stick. He had a small bleed in his right eye but it's nothing serious - phew. Oh, and despite the injury, he won the fight. Is it wrong that I'm slightly proud of him for this? Of course I'd rather he hadn't been fighting but it doesn't sound like the other kid gave him a lot of choice and he followed the parental advice of "never start a fight but always finish one". So he's now sporting a stunning black eye and in typical male fashion, the other kid and him are now friends. Why do boys do that? It's just weird!

Thursday - Kidlet off school with a perfectly understandable headache, I was still very low energy but managed to do some cleaning in the kitchen (it desperately needed it). Then I went out for a massage, which was very deep and completely knocked me for six. Came home, fell down.

Friday - went out shopping with Cat in the morning but found driving very difficult and had a bit of an exhausted weepy wibble when we got home. Slept like the dead all afternoon and then watched the last four episodes of Heroes in the evening. OMG, it was so frigging good. I can't wait for the next season. Fortunately we still have the rest of Jericho, Doctor Who, several more seasons of Six Feet Under and the final season of Veronica Mars to keep us going.

In between all this, I've been doing various art things - my envelopes of course, some other drawing, some mindmapping, more reading up on alphabets and writing and plenty of pottering around flickr promoting my photos. Oh, and I set up a blog on the AN site to promote The Diary Project. They have a section where artists can start blogs about their projects. So considering that it's been quite a low energy week, I still seem to have got a fair bit done.
